I've had no problems with this unit. I only use it wisely, not to overload it, as I see others have been doing. It is a tool, not a weapon. It is for light duty, not construction work.
If you abuse it, of course it will fail. Use it as intended, & it has lasted me & my wife over 5 years now.

I have 5 of this back saver. One upstairs--one downstairs--- one in the garage--- one in the greenhouse and one on the patio. Use them to pick up dog toys---- fallen peaches -- retrieve things from hard to reach places. Have given several to friends.

My wife recently gave a gopher to a friend as a 100th birthday present. The lady loves it. She can pick up her phone without getting up if she happens to be sitting away from it. She was also surprised when she was able to pick up a dropped pill. Very sturdy for something so light. She has friends who envy her gopher and will probably be ordering their own.

I was pleasantly surprised at the ability of this product to not only reach inaccessible items, but also hold a fair amount of weight. The slippage noted above is for items that probably should not, for safety reasons, be lifted with a product of this kind.

One of the sucktion cups broke of of mine but I glued it back on with gorilla glue and have been using it for six years. But I do wish they made a longer one as I am usually sitting in a handicap scooter when I go to the store.

I am handicapped and get quite upset when I drop things because I can't pick them up easily. However, the Deluxe Gopher is absolutely, perfectly wonderful. I don't have to bend anymore! My husband & I absolutely LOVE the Gopher! We have one in every room plus we each have one we keep a work. We both have bad knees plus my husband has a bad back so it is very hard for us to bend to pick things up off the floor. I'm short & find it very handy to get light items out of the cupboards, etc. It can also be use to grab something that rolled under the couch by bending it onto the floor in an "L" shape while holding the handle. I have even used it outside to pick up twigs & small limbs, etc. The only drawback is the rubber suction cups do come off with time so I used either Gorilla Glue or a super glue to glue them back on like the previous lady did. They never come off again! What a great product!!!

My father loves using his Grabber and can even pick up a pill if he drops one! Our only comment is that the first thing to break is the rubber cup from the frame and it's very hard to glue on or screw back in. We generally order 6 Grabbers to last him a full year.

I use it 24/7. I know there are so many things I could NOT do without it. Many of the other brands DO NOT have the double suction cups and are worthless! The suction cups and the locking mechanism make up for not being able to apply and maintain steady pressure thus avoiding dropping everything.

I wrote my opinion on this great tool and noticed Artie's comment, from Staten Island, New York. With excessive use of my Deluxe Gopher, my rubber tips/suction cups also came off. I solved this problem by taking the rubber grips off and putting some glue on the screws and putting the cups back on. The glue cures and solves the problem of them coming off. It's hard to believe someone uses this tool more than I do, and for heavier lifting. I use it to pick up small, tree limbs all over my 1.5 acre yard with plenty of trees. Hope this helps to solve his problem with the "suction cups"!

I only wish I had invented the "Deluxe Gopher"! I use it inside and outside the house, and find new uses all the time. I have back problems, so it helps me out every day by not having to stoop. This year I have also used it to pick-up ripe persimmons (daily) on the ground, so I can feed them to the deer in a different location. It is also extremely helpful to reach a wall clock that I have to take down to change batteries from time-to-time. I would hate to be without it for any length of time. It is a fantastic tool I use daily and have used it for years!

I own an older version that doesn't fold but is VERY WELL constructed. I've used it for YEARS. When first purchasing this one I found it had more attributes like the folding and locking mechanisms. The first two broke within two months. The suction cups are held on by CHEAP plastic so I resorted to taking them from the older one. Then it held up a year. Recently the folding mechinism failed. This is the reason for signing on to purchase another one. Real good product real poor construction. Maybe I should buy a dozen. :-) Can anyone tell me where I can buy the older version, please.

I tried to lift a pillow, turned the Gopher side-ways and it snaped at the middle joint.

This joint is made of plastic and is weak if you turn the Gopher side ways.

The product is ok if you use it right and do not over weight it.

Being only 5 feet tall has always forced me to climb on chairs and counters to reach things. Now I can grab what I need easily without risking a tumble. I also use it to grab things I drop behind furniture or appliances. I even use it to tidy up my garden without having to stand in the middle of my shrubs. I find new uses all the time!

This gripper really comes in handy. Keeps you from bending down or losing your balance. I use it to get behind beds, dressers, etc. Everything around the house. My housekeeper loves it. The only problem is I wish it were a little heavier and more sturdy. It will not hold my weight of 165 lbs. It could not be used as a short term cane or to lift real heavy objects. But, I would still recommend it. It is very versatile and prevents a lot of bending and lifting.

While riding mower, I use to move debris out of the way (big sticks or rocks,etc) so I don't have to stop and get down.
I picked blackberries and used it to move vines out of the way and to reach across the fence or deep into vines & not get scratched to get the good ones.(my fence, my berries)

Due to arthritis I prefer to remain seated in my wheelchair. I don't like to have to stand to retrieve a box of cereal from a top shelf. The Gofer hauls a cereal box down easily, and then places it back on the high shelf. And it grips just fine.

I especially like the way the grippers can be swivel-turned to my preference.

I really like the gopher. I had an old one with the plastic tips and didn't use it much since it was so hard to grab and hold on to things. With the gopher the suction cups gives you a good grip and with the lock feature it holds it tightly so you can even use both hands to carry if need be. I'm totally sold on this product and use it a lot.
