I used these for some potted plants that require a lot of water, in our hot summer, when I had to take a trip. They worked very well - keeping the plants moist but not soggy while I was gone.

From the picture I thought you could use a regular water bottle. They don't fit. You need the kind that holds a soda pop. Also, when the water drains the plastic gets distorted because as water drains and air is vacuumed out of the bottle. The aqua globes work better. I haven't tried making the hole at the tip bigger, that may work better. Over all it works OK, but not great.
