All the good things said in other reviews on this product are very true. I agree it is about 5 inches too wide--for smaller spaces, but larger people need to be considered. I'm small (but I've got an electric saw that will shorten that problem--been a DIYer since a kid (and surprise--I'm a petite, but determined, female!!) MY ODD need for this 'Stabilizer' is that I tend to fall asleep playing my handheld Solitaire Game to relax on the john! Twice now I've had to YELL to wake my housemate to extricate me from my embarrassing position on the floor. This Stabilizer--moved slightly away from the bowl bottom with my feet across the floor bar--is just what was needed. It catches me at the start of my fall, waking me in time to stop my fall. I WISH THIS WAS AVAILABLE WHEN MY MOM WAS IN HER LATE 80'S--in the late 90's! There was nothing to steady her in her spacious bathroom.

This turned out to be perfect for our bathroom where the toilet is right up against the wall on one side. No support system that hooked on to the toilet would fit in the given space. It's also easy to move to other bathrooms or chairs anywhere in the house. And easy to remove when company comes, or it is no longer needed when recovery time is over.

Wish that there was the ability to adjust the distance across the handles for a more custom fit!
